OpenSource means that if I as an independant person wanted to make an application for it, I could without a problem, and it would have all the rights of a normal application. On the other side of the coin however, if you wanted let's say internet ANYWHERE on your laptop, it would cost 100 dollars, and then 60 dollars a month, to not even truly have internet EVERYWHERE. Smart Phones give you many options, and the initial price is enough where we'd think that it would offset the monthly cost.
