Android WritingPad ShapeWriter is an innovative, original, fun, and highly efficient method of entering text into touch screen mobile phones. ShapeWriter lets the user to simply draw a continuous stroke from letter to letter on a soft keyboard and lift to complete the word. The resulting trace is recognized as the intended word. For example: to write the word "fun", land the pen (or mouse cursor) on the F key, drag to the U key, continue to the N key and lift up the pen. ShapeWriter recognizes the curso trace F-U-N as the word "fun".

Apr 20, 2008 - Very nice man. Although I got an impression from the title "Writing Pad" that is was a handwriting recognition software for mobile touchscreens, which I was very excited about. But still very nice, much better than the iphone's onscreen keypad.

Apr 29, 2008 - Letter based handwriting is fundamentally slow (or inaccurate if done fast). Shape writing is a form of shorthand (one stroke one word), except it does not require upfront learning to be able to use it.

May 14, 2008 - very nice .. but no use unless it becomes available to the public. ... i've been waiting for a download ever since the rough ibm SHARK was abandoned. (I assume the Shapewriter is an evolution of the SHARK.)

Jun 2, 2008 - In longer words, like "accidentally", the red cursor line starts to get so long it begins to cover the letters of the onscreen keyboard. Could you make the line eventually fade to some low opacity as it's being drawn to prevent that?

Jun 3, 2008 - tosco! quem 'digita' assim?
ShapeWriterInc Says:
Jun 3, 2008 - Yes, we have done that in the past and fading the tracing is indeed better. There was a bit performance concern on Android simulator, but we will try again. Thanks. This problem is particularly pronounced for the classic QWERTY layout. For optimized layout (ATOMIK, which will be an option in the next version), there will be a lot fewer zig-zag long traces.
