Whenever Hallie and Annie needed to interact, Erin would step in as one or the other of the twins, and then later, if the shot was perticularly close up, they would digitally replace Erin's face with Lindsay's. Or if there is a shot where one twin is up close, and the other is farther back in the background, the one in the background is Erin. The director talks about this in a featurette called "how hallie became annie" in the special features.
