Nov 23, 2008 - You, who've already made one of these PVC instruments... Do you think the diameter of the pipe has something to do with the prolongation of the sound? It's because I'm thinking of making one of it myself, just for hobby... And, of course, I'd like the sound to be prolongated as maximum as possible... Or, what thing else do you think it could influence in the prolongation of the sound?
m00100101 Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - Using all 2" pipe, the longer the pipe length, the longer the prolongation of the sound. Now, I would think that a wider diameter = longer sound. Certainly not vice versa.

Nov 29, 2008 - I don't understand why someone marked this as spam, there is an equation and it's the 12th root of 2. the number is 1.05946309... You multiply the length of any tube to get the length of next half step down, and divide to get the next half up. say 60" = A2 (because it does). If you want to find the length of Bb2, divide 60 by the 12th root of 2 (or 1.059...), and you get about 63.57" (rounded). Test this by dividing or multiplying 12 times either way, you'll get 120" (A1), or 240" (A3)
m00100101 Says:
Nov 29, 2008 - Great, thanks for that. I hope people can use this as their research info now.

Oct 1, 2008 - I use a bathroom mat sort of thing that's about 3/8" thick and it is basically bolted onto the end of a 1/2" PVC pipe. A nice mousepad, extremely well glued onto a 1/4" piece of wood, bolted to the end of a PVC pipe, is also quite effective.
