At the Web 2.0 Expo, we asked Tim O'Reilly, Dan Farber, Matt Mullenweg, Jay Cross, Brian Solis, Kevin Marks, Steve Gillmor, Jeremy Tanner, Maggie Fox, Tom McGovern, Sam Lawrence, Stowe Boyd, David Tebbutt, Dave McClure, Chris Carfi, Vamshi Krishna and Rod Boothby the same question: "What is Cloud Computing?". Here's what we got. (more)

Aug 6, 2008 - What a load of cobbles, search and replace "cloud" with "web" or "spider" or "bull" and the unwashed masses will stand up and cheer a collective Ahaa and they will quote those gnomes just like it made sense. Design by committee all over again. Think of a good buzzword, spill it to the right people and they will do all the spin for you.

Sep 2, 2008 - what a load of garbage, the only people who don't like cloud computing...are people who know anything about computers, want someone to see everything u do even worse that it is now, well here's your chance! I bet big brother just a lovin this...
frequentfliermileage Says:
Sep 6, 2008 - The guy at the end (not the Joyent guy) said pretty much exactly what I think cloud computing is.
muzzleray Says:
Sep 17, 2008 - cloud computing is THEM running away with your big idea. I love all this technology, but I'm concerned about the administration, I've never liked administration in any environment, but it's the no.1 growth that rides like an abscess on the back of creativity. but if i was earning a nice wage from whatever, I'd be ok about any thing. give me death or give me convenience (I'm being ironic btw)
onemuslimvoice Says:
Sep 26, 2008 - I totally agree. I think the step is good in concept, I am just concerned about data security. In any case I tried google crome and it was totally below my expectations, we still have some way to go!
gogobeansvideo Says:
Sep 30, 2008 - great thanks for the explanation. This is definitely where the future lives. I left of video response - Gogobeans has an interesting take on cloud/social computing. I'd love some feedback.

Oct 8, 2008 - Best answer was Sam Lawrence and then Maggie Fox... WTF was Brian Solis & Chris Carfi smoking? I want some of that stuff
DJPsionix Says:
Oct 18, 2008 - There are so many idiots who have no idea, who think that cloud computing is a magic wand that fixes problems.. when in reality, "cloud computing" is not actually a new concept, or even a new paradigm at all.
lloydbrookes10 Says:
Oct 24, 2008 - the term cloud computing is used mainly by web service providers and datacentres selling (virtual) hardware resource by the hour. maybe in the future the typical software license will be to rent UltraSoft (deployed in the cloud) on a Pay As You Go basis, not to take home version 2 of UltraSoft.
wbvillarruz Says:
Oct 27, 2008 - cloud computing? hmmm... nice new techie term for users to be independently free from soft&hardware techno crap and functionally be productive via net. how's that? and now that it's here, what are you going to do next?
billeybop Says:
Oct 29, 2008 - Boy! am I glad I watched this montage of an explanation. We need not worry about our information security. We put it out there and discover its flaws as we go along. We also make the laws as we go along. Technology has two sides one is good and the other is bad.
grubgrob Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - Very VERY neuromance.. just add ANDROUD and BINGO.. just need a VRML interface as GUI
grubgrob Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - Neuromancer. By the prophet William Gibson and ANDROID (my typos are letting me down)
evilezek1el Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - What what what??? Do they know anything (as they pretend) or they are asking us?? Screw ya guys, i am going home! :)
evilezek1el Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - Well they know, pretty sure! :)

Nov 4, 2008 - technology is evolving at an exponential rate... soon it will take over....
boxless Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - LOL... this is ridiuculous... wha a useless buzz Jay Cross sounds drunk as hell... hahah
Penkovski Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - Boy, things must be slow at the old think tank these days. Let's come up with a buzz word and try to figure out what it can be used for. Who will be the first to come out with a "Clouding Certification". It's right up there with the CISSP cert, yet another hog wash certification. The worst part is that the government falls for this junk hook line and sinker. I know, nothing strange there.
Djluv5 Says:
Nov 29, 2008 - Its the time where u wont need software or hardware... u just need to a connection to the web..?? LMAO but u need a hardware dats capable of running A software to go to the net.. stupid theory.... even if its just a screen u still have the hardware...
hunjix Says:
Dec 6, 2008 - So all we learned from this useless clip is that cloud computing is another form of ultra-super-abstraction bubble that does magic. The future of IT would be as following: - There is a problem - You sit in front of your computer and say: "solve it." - BAM! The clarion of resolution appears before your eyes. I can't stand philosophical jargon.
leysin Says:
Dec 16, 2008 - Why don't they just call it "net computing", why have to make up a different word when refering to the internet?? The internet is not a cloud, its just the internet. Hate it when these fags feel the need to gay up my computer experience. No offense to the gay community, but you know what I mean.
MalibuKeeper Says:
Dec 18, 2008 - Matt Mullenweg said it right: "its more about the ability for developers not to worry about things" Or in technical terms: just another layer of abstraction
izlude2 Says:
Jan 5, 2009 - so i could be playing a high spec game on high spec settings just from a terminal at home?
unrealeck Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - Not yet since the amount of data being sent and received would be so great that a standard home internet connection wouldn't handle it. It could be something that can be done with more advancements in technology though.
