from jTV in Australia, Ben Folds' Like a Version from 2006, The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights." AND! You may or may not believe it, but The Postal Service's version IS the original. NOT Iron & Wine. Check your facts before arguing about it. Looking for the MP3? http://wokeupwaytoolate.com/filedump/Solo%20Tracks/Ben%20Folds%20-%20Such%20Great%20Heights.mp3 NAMED #70 on Triple J's Top 100 of 2006. Pretty good for a cover! Ben says that he forgot that he was supposed to be on Like a Version and "had to cover a popular song, and turned on my ipod and this was the most recently listened to song and found some drummers in the studio" (11/5/06 in Columbia, MO).... and tada, here we are. On the spot first time thing. Check how he's doing it now on other videos.

Dec 25, 2008 - Yeah..This was certainly cool to see, really. I mean, Macarena. But I do like the other versions more. :)

Dec 26, 2008 - this is pretty good, but i still like the original better.

Dec 27, 2008 - Yeah, i pretty much agree, if you're going to do a cover you basically have to make it your own, like the shins' cover of We Will Become Silhouettes - that was good because it basically made a whole new, awesome song, neither better or worse. This, though, kind of re-does the song with "innovative", as you say, drums and an out-of-tune-ish voice. it doesn't really make it "its own". The other cover though, umm..... iron and wine, was good. i liked that, kind of new and different.. and slow =)

Dec 30, 2008 - any haters read the info on this video, he pulled this out of his ass, effortless. great cover, muted piano =]
sultanofswing46 Says:
Dec 30, 2008 - he's an incredible piano player, that alone makes it amazing, then you consider the drums and how he pulled this out of his ass. whoever said this was a bad cover is a dumbass.
lifesucksdontit Says:
Dec 31, 2008 - I agree. He didn't invent this song. This video makes him look like he has the same amount of talent as a 16 year old with a guitar and camera. Fuck you Ben Folds. This makes you look like a tool.

Dec 31, 2008 - Ben puts his own twist on it so I dig it. P.S. I love this song but I hate when people say the original was by Iron & Wine.
foxworth33 Says:
Jan 1, 2009 - show me a 16 year old that can put together something like this without planning, can play the piano like that, and sing that well to this song and i'll value your opinion. or do it yourself, that works just as well. as if doing a cover of a song makes you a tool... "fuck you ben folds"? nice. say fuck you to a guy who is just having some fun in his spare time, THAT sounds more like a 16 year old to me.
asaverywhiteway Says:
Jan 1, 2009 - you try it. I bet he sweats more creativity than you could ever muster with your mind 100% focused towards that goal. you are totally lame >_> rofl.

Jan 3, 2009 - Neat piano, but i'm not a fan of the singing. boo.

Jan 5, 2009 - aaaaaaaaaaagreeeeeeeed. in fact, people should check out the live version of this song - it's a lot better preformed (cause he's had some practice)

Jan 6, 2009 - Super talent, no doubt. Amazing cover with the percussionists. Wanted to love this, but the cellphone bit at the end made me feel like a sucker for watching it. Ben, start taking it seriously. Your fans do.
blondexrocker Says:
Jan 6, 2009 - In music and the entertainment industry as a whole you can never take yourself too seriously. Ben Folds is a fantastic musician, I've never listened to too much of his stuff but from this video I can tell he knows damn well what he's doing. Let the guy have some fun. The song was extremely well executed and he just wanted to add a little "somethin' somethin'" on the end to make it his. hahaha
jamoi13 Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - LOL! can u guys see the session artists laughing in the background when he played the macarena? they sure looked like they were just having a blast. he must really be a cool guy
