The only thing Nolan did to Batman is make him the most powerless and pathetic superhero I've ever seen in film and the old comics have nothing to do with that, Nolan just turn Batman into a wannabe artsy crime saga with the excuse that he wanted a more "realistic" approach, truth is, he's just ashamed of doing a superhero blockbuster so he wants to have his cake and eat it too.
