September 2007 It's one of the great unanswered questions of science. What gives matter its mass? By generating conditions present moments after the big bang, scientists hope to locate the elusive 'God Particle'. "This is going to take us to the next layer of understanding", enthuses Prof Geoff Taylor. The Hadron Collider at CERN, due to be switched on next year, will shoot beams of energy around a 27 km loop, smashing them into each other at the speed of light. It's all in the hope of detecting the Higgs Boson, or 'God' particle, thought to give matter its mass. CERN scientists will also create mini black holes and search for dark matter. As Taylor states: "We are on the verge of discovering how our universe evolved from the first few fractions of a second."

Oct 24, 2008 - It's the freed electron.
bignewgame Says:
Oct 24, 2008 - Children starving on this world and those who are thought to be humane spend their money on one big atom smasher. Where is the logic in that? The God particle was already found! This machine was a waste of tax dollars.

Oct 24, 2008 - my 9th grade biology teacher told my class about this every 1 was so intrested it was funny lol i was like wow so im checkin out wat ever i can find on it lol

Oct 28, 2008 - what nation will take credit for this machine?
stealthll Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - it's a multinationalproject why should zny country swiss or france take credit
jewto0b Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - While most agree on it's existence it's hypothetical, which means it's still a theory. The logic in this is the things they can discover with this tool could in time change the world probably more than any previous discovery has. It could have all types of benefits that lead to further exploration of the galaxy, or advanced technologies, etc. Even discovering more dimensions and finally proving or disproving time travel, who knows.. I think it's definitely worth it.
nihiswann Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - I totally agree. I see value in these experiments, but only AFTER we deal with the greater issues of suffering on OUR planet.. Priorities are corrupted by self serving people
skycamefallingdown Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - I have heard something similar. If person #1 were able to stand on the edge of the event horizon and watch person #2 fall into the blackhole...To person #1, person #2 would look like he is standing still, forever in a freezframe because the gravity from the black hole would prevent light from reaching person #1's eyes to see what would happen next. Meanwhile, what what would feel like seconds to person #2, would actually be millions of years. I read that in Popular Science:Black hole edition.
ffinfinity1 Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - now i really dont want to fall in a black hole seriously. thx for explaining that 2 me cuz i only knew like the basic of wat would happen and not like all the details. also i hope that the machine does not create a black hole, not even a mini one.

Nov 4, 2008 - freed electron? explain

Nov 28, 2008 - Ah yes, this old diatribe. President's to do list (DO NOT DEVIATE): 1) cure world hunger 2) draw pictures of flowers 3) end suffering 4) cure aids 5) science I love how black and white the world can be for ignorant people. Rhetoricians and pedants will always try* to impede science for self-righteous and vainglorious reasons, usually contributing to more harm to humanity than good. Thank God you can be ignored.
nihiswann Says:
Nov 28, 2008 - I guess you were a little bit too self-righteous to actually do what you've said.. ignore me I guess you're right. As a matter of fast I guess you're ALWAYS right.. sic right?

Dec 14, 2008 - it amazes me that smart men like this can believe in the big bang which makes no sense and is only an assumption......
newcome880 Says:

twinpinesmall Says:
Dec 20, 2008 - And when the first collision occurred it unleashed a new big bang at the point of impact and the energy consumed all the galaxies and matter in the known universe and so it begins again.
marshmaniac90 Says:
Dec 22, 2008 - im pretty sure no one would like a black hole...but if this works this will prove to us how the universe was made! And to me that is amazing! If there was a black hole its going to be way to small even for the naked eye to see and it would be way to small for it to have any sort of pull....so it would colapse its self not doing anything!
DrDarkEnergy Says:
Dec 22, 2008 - What will LHC give us: the particle of God, or magnetic trap of Devil. Magnetic trap is an axial-symmetric magnetic analogue of a black hole. It is 10^36 stronger than gravitational black hole. CERNs specialists do not know about the magnetic trap yet. If microscopic magnetic trap will be made in CERN's LHC, the Earth will be transformed into an infinitely thin emptiness, surrounded by circular current of 6 meter radius. Compare: Schwarzschild radius of such mass is 0,009 meters
DrDarkEnergy Says:
Dec 22, 2008 - Only crazy people can try to create particles with the rest mass more then 1000 masses of nucleon. Hundreds types of particles can be created in the region 1000-7000 aum. Most of them will decay, but some will grow, capturing the ordinary matter. Arrant big-bangers want to touch the particle of God, but thus, they lead us into the magnetic trap of Devil. Magnetic trap is 10^36 times stronger than black hole. Open the criminal cases against global terrorists. Stop Tevatron and close the LHC
ffinfinity1 Says:
Dec 23, 2008 - i hope yur rite just want these two things to be a coincidence
veritas6464 Says:
Jan 1, 2009 - Hey scientists! How about you work out how to feed all the people of the REAL World first. Fuck this gizmo shit, what a watse of resources.
caifan111 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - Scientists do not have the power to feed the poor. The system of our governments which work together to stay on top and basically rule the entire world allow such tragedies to occur because they simply don't care and they know that the mass is ignorant of such things as you clearly are.
caifan111 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - "Columbus oh my god....Columbus what a waste of youth sailing the seas attempting to prove the world is round. Can't he see it's a silly assumption? I mean we all know it's flat"
scamperator Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - If smart men such as these believe such things, just think how STUPID the things you believe must be...Idiot
DrDarkEnergy Says:
Jan 8, 2009 - Collision energies and bombs: Several eV - chemical bomb; Several MeV - nuclear bomb; Several TeV - hyper bomb. (Example: SN 1987A) Chemical bomb - change in chemical structure of matter. Nuclear bomb - change in nuclear structure of matter. Hyper bomb - transformation of matter into field mc^2 --- > LI^2. Magnetic trap is 10^36 times stronger than black hole. LHC propagandists must be arrested. Otherwise they will explode the Earth. Stop Tevatron and LHC.
