Jan 2, 2009 - What is the original hard drive? 5400 rpms or 7200 rpms? It'd probably be best to upgrade to the same speed?

Jan 3, 2009 - so people down load games and pic . movies .etc. also the new game r going to be much large so its a good idea to upgrade .but it still a good idea to have an extra external hard drive to have everything backed up encase your drive gives up
bodaciuos1 Says:
Jan 3, 2009 - i have a 60 and im still going to up grade to 250 . u can never have to much . though i also recommend to have everything backed up on an external hd ,just encase ur hd fails ,u dont lose everything...

Jan 3, 2009 - the new 80gb ps3s do not have that. you have a blue screw and remove it and then PULL straight out instead of pulling the latch.
Radiokaos420 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - Be careful though. Only SOME HDD works, do a few background checks on them. I suggest the WD Scorpio 320GB. It works and it's very affordable ($70 ain't too bad)

Jan 4, 2009 - i was going to look at the origional one and see what the rpm is which is 5400 and compare them but thanks for the tip.

Jan 5, 2009 - how can i restore all my stuff?
Skullcrusher1 Says:
Jan 5, 2009 - no it must be formatted FAT32. The ps3 has a format utility to do so. Hope this helps you. :)

Jan 6, 2009 - here is the complete data of upgrading HDD Requirements: it must be SATA-150 it must be 8mb Cache (very important) it must be 2.5 inches it must be 5400rpm Limitations: 20GB model limited to 40GB 40GB model limited to 80GB 60GB model limited to 120GB 80GB model limited to 160GB NOTE: If you exceed the limitations your PS3 will overheat and will cause too much noise and it will cause damage
TheSepher Says:
Jan 6, 2009 - I'm just going to say that NinjaKatana45's NOTE section is wrong... I have a Western Digital Scorpio 320GB 2.5inch SATA 5400RPM 8MB Notebook HDD installed to my (originally 60GB) Playstation 3...

Jan 7, 2009 - how can i tell if my hard drive is bad and where can i get one thanks
drshagstein Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - NinjaKatana45 doesn't know what he's talking about. That little made-up list of his is replete with inaccuracies and myths that the folks at Sony themselves have long since debunked. It's perfectly safe to install a large capacity (250gb-500gb) hard drive in your PS3. Ditto for one that runs @ 7200rpm w/ 16mb Cache. If you don't believe me research it for yourselves on the web. Also, check your PS3 manuals. The only upgrade restriction is that your new hdd must be 2.5", and that's it.
jabklyn Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - Bollocks. I've had a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive installed for almost 6 months with no heat, vibration, or noise issues at all. Virtually all of my mates who own ps3's have also upgraded to bigger hard drives as well without any issues. Where in the any of Sony's official documentation for the ps3 did you got your info, or misinformation, from? Stop spreading childish and unsubstantiated rumours.
cfost214 Says:
Jan 8, 2009 - I saw a SATA hdd with 1tb is that too much for my ps3 to hold, will i have problems?
amgonnagtya Says:
